It is commonly accepted that Benzoyl Peroxide to be produced under the following concentrations: 2.5%, 4%, 5% and 10%. Even if 10% for many it might appear to be an irritating dose and too much, it is still considered to be safe.

Benzoyl Peroxide is considered to be a carcinogenic product if it is applied on unprotected skin in 100% concentration. In pure form, Benzoyl Peroxide becomes extremely aggressive and harmful to the skin, it may lead to serious damages and induce skin cancer, tumors. Fortunately, you can’t find Benzoyl Peroxide in shops in such a concentration, so you’ll never take the wrong bottle of 100% instead of 2.5%.

Where can 2.5% doses of benzoyl peroxide be found?

In Europe, New Zealand, and Australia - Benzoyl Peroxide is used in a 4% concentration. North American dermatologists (Canada, USA) usually recommend the usage of a lower dose - 2.5%. The latest dose is the safest one and it causes a smaller number of allergies or skin irritations. Since it is used on problematic skin and on inflammation areas, probably it is the most rational dose ever. It will not call some supplementary skin inflammation and irritation, which is a good thing in acne.

Dermatologists all over the world usually tend to recommend this dosage, because it is the best to start with. In case the person is allergic to benzoyl peroxide or can’t support this medication, than the side effects are minimal, compared to a 4% or 10% dose, where the side effects, if occur, will be doubled or quadrupled.

If your skin does accommodates easily to a 2.5$ dosage, than you can increase the frequency of ointment or gel usage up to 3-4 times a day without any risk that some irritations or burnings will occur. However, the frequency you use a benzoyl peroxide product must be coordinated with your dermatologist and to be according his or her instructions.

The only thing you can do the best after you buy a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide product is to not overuse it and stick to you instructions as given by your dermatologist. If you decided to start a benzoyl peroxide cure on your own, then at least start with a small dosage and a concentration of 2.5% and not higher. You will save you money also, because if a higher concentration will become irritating, you’ll have to throw it, while with a 2.5% the probability of having some itches after it is very low.

Where could you find more info on Benzoyl Peroxide for the Acne trtment?

Seeing the growing interest for the benzoyl peroxide products and treatments for acne, I made a decision last week to register a new site where I’ll continue to add more on Benzoyl Peroxide acne treatments. Researchers in Britain previously reported that 25% of patients at their large acne center have erythromycin-resistant P. acnes on their skin, and they recently showed that patients with predominantly resistant P. acnes fail to respond to oral erythromycin therapy. In an effort to ensure the continued efficacy of erythromycin in acne therapy, these researchers investigated whether benzoyl peroxide, a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, adds to the antibacterial effect of erythromycin.

Benzoyl peroxide was tested alone and in combination with erythromycin against 40 erythromycin-sensitive and -resistant strains of Staphylococcus epidermis and proprionibacteria in vitro. In most of the bacterial strains, the combination of agents was no more effective in inhibiting the organisms than benzoyl peroxide alone.

Comment: P. acnes may have developed resistance to erythromycin, a bacteriostatic agent, as a result of the introduction of topical formulations in the late 1970s or from years of long-term systemic administration of the drug. The emergence of resistant strains poses a potentially significant problem in the management of patients with acne. This study shows that the combination of erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide is not synergistic against the majority of erythromycin-resistant propionibacteria. However, the combined use of topical benzoyl peroxide with either topical or systemic erythromycin should prevent selection for erythromycin-resistant skin bacteria and should also reduce the number of resistant strains already present on the skin. It appears rational, therefore, to avoid using unopposed erythromycin and to combine it with benzoyl peroxide.

— JS Dover

Published in Journal Watch Dermatology December 1, 1994

How can acne be treated?

Acne can be treated in different ways. The main thing to remember is that it will take about two months of any treatment before your skin starts to look better.

Benzoyl peroxide (in different strengths) clears up acne for many people. You can get benzoyl peroxide without a prescription. It comes in a cream, lotion, gel, soap or in pads. You spread it over the whole area where you have acne (not just dabbing it onto each blemish). Your doctor may tell you to use it once a day at first and then work you up to two times a day. If you start using benzoyl peroxide, begin with a lower strength. Use it once a day at bedtime. Before using it, gently wash the skin with soap and water. If benzoyl peroxide doesn't seem to help after two months or is very irritating to your skin, get advice from your doctor. Benzoyl peroxides can bleach your clothes, so be careful.

Antibiotics can be very good for acne. They can be taken by mouth, or used in a lotion, cream, or gel on the skin. Again, be sure to apply the lotion, cream or gel over the whole area where you have acne. Often doctors start with these but if they don't work, you may have to take the antibiotic as a pill over months.

Tretinoin (some examples are Retin-A, Stieva-A) can be a very good treatment for acne. It is often rubbed onto the skin once a day. Be sure not to get it near the eyes, mouth and area under the nose. It may seem at first that tretinoin is making your acne worse. Give it several weeks to start working. If you use tretinoin, you must avoid the sun or use a strong sunscreen. Tretinoin increases your risk of getting a very bad sunburn. Some come with sunscreen added to them. Pills are used to treat severe acne. Many creams/gels contain a combination of acne treatments such as vitamin A and an antibiotic.

Isotretinoin (Accutane) may be needed to treat severe acne. Accutane comes as a cream and may help less severe acne. It is best in treating cystic acne and to prevent scars. It is taken once a day by mouth for 15 to 20 weeks. Isotretinoin can cause serious side effects. It causes serious birth defects and miscarriages. It should never be taken during pregnancy or even one month before pregnancy. All women must use birth control while you take isotretinoin, as well as one month before and one month after you start taking it.

Talk to your doctor and follow directions carefully if he or she prescribes isotretinoin for you.

Acne Treatment - Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the common ingredients used to treat acne. You can find this active ingredient in the form of a cream, gel, lotion, facemask, or cleansing bar. Benzoyl Peroxide is very effective in treating mild cases of acne. This acne treatment drug is available in non-prescription form for concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10%. If you are looking for concentrations higher than 10%, you need a doctor's prescription. Several studies have shown that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is equally effective to combat pimples and is less irritating. Therefore, if you want to try Benzoyl Peroxide to treat your acne, you should begin with a low concentration (example 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide).

How Benzoyl Peroxide works
Before we go into details on how benzoyl peroxide can prevent acne, it is useful to understand how acne is formed. Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes) is a bacteria that causes the skin disorder acne. P.acnes is a major inhabitant of human skin and is the causative agent of acne. This skin-dwelling organism will multiply rapidly within clogged sebaceous follicles if left untreated. Fortunately, these bacteria cannot live in the presence of oxygen. Benzoyl Peroxide is an oxygen-releasing chemical in the organic peroxide family. Upon applying on the affected area, this chemical is absorbed into the pores and releases the oxygen to destroy P.acnes.

Side Effects of Benzoyl Peroxide
It is important to note that there are some side effects when using this anti-acne medication:

a. Dryness
If you are using 5% or 10% of benzoyl peroxide, you may want to try a lower concentration, say 2.5% of benzoyl peroxide.

b. Irritation
For irritation, you can reduce the usage frequency. If you encounter severe irritation even the usage frequency is low, you should discontinue using the product.

c. Allergy
If you are allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide, you should discontinue using it and consult your dermatologist for other acne treatments.

d. Bleach
Benzoyl Peroxide is a powerful bleaching agent. You should prevent your hair from contacting this bleaching agent as this medicine can cause permanent color dampening.

Before using Benzoyl Peroxide for your acne treatment, please take note that this medicine generates free radicals in the skin. The result is redness of the skin due to oxidative stress. The effect is similar to unprotected sun exposure. If you are using a benzoyl peroxide product to treat your acne, you should avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use a sunscreen during the day.

Please be reminded that the above information is for informational purposes only and it is not intended to replace any health care services you need. I made a very quick research on google and revealed that testosterone has nothing to do with acne, except in some cases in women, but not in males.

Logically, being the hormone which regulates the oil elimination of the skin, it should be somehow connected with the acne appearance, I think. Acne caused by demodex appears because of the excessive oil elimination, and there must be a connection between this hormone and the acne occurrence.

Also, if my theory that a lack of testosterone may cause some skin disorders is true (and less testosterone means more acne spots), and testosterone also is responsible for the one’s aggressive attitude, than it is more likely that people with a melancholic character and calm to develop acne. Many of the products on the market today contain benzoyl peroxide including popular lotions, soaps, gels and creams. Most of these acne treatments are sold over the counter under such manufacturer names as Neutrogena Acne, Benoxyl, Clear by Design, PanOxyl, Clean & Clear, Clearasil and Oxy.

Benzoyl peroxide works by killing the bacteria that frequently causes acne infection; known as P. acnes. While this bacteria is present in almost everyone, it begins to create a problem and leads to the presence of acne when the sebaceous glands become clogged with sebum. Redness, pain and swelling result from the infection. As the medication kills the bacteria, the excess sebum dries which may lead to some of the more frequent side effects noted for this acne treatment.

As a peeling agent, one of the most common side effects of benzoyl peroxide for acne treatment is the fact that it tends to irritate the skin. Depending on the user, this irritation can range from slight to more severe. Individuals who possess very sensitive skin are cautioned to use the medicine less often or user a weaker strength of the medication. In some cases in which the medication causes the skin to become overly reddened or even peel, it may be necessary to consult a physician. Benzoyl peroxide can also cause the following conditions:

• Blistering, crusting or swelling of the skin
• Severe burning or redness of the skin
• Skin rash
• Darkening or lightening of the skin
• Discoloration of hair as well as fabrics

Many manufacturers recommend continual use of benzoyl peroxide for optimal acne treatment results, leading to the question of whether there might be any long term effects related to the use of this product. Due to the fact that benzoyl peroxide generates free radicals, there has been concern expressed that long term use of this acne treatment could lead to the development of skin cancer later in life. At the current time, there are no studies to indicate this; however it remains a theoretical concern.

Women who are pregnant are cautioned to consult their physician prior to using any acne treatment that contains benzoyl peroxide due to the fact that the effects of benzoyl peroxide on a developing fetus remain unknown.

Benzoyl peroxide does tend to cause skin irritation, especially in sensitive skin, so individuals with such conditions as eczema or sunburned skin are also cautioned not to use it.

In a clinical study performed by the Department of Dermatology at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor; a combination gel acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide was tested in more than 1250 patients with moderate to moderately severe acne vulgaris. The combination gel contained a 5% benzoyl peroxide solution. The most common side effect noted was dry skin with some isolated incidences of localized skin irritation.

How to start treatment with Benzoyl Peroxide?

Benzoyl peroxide makes an effective treatment for mild to moderate acne. Start with a lotion or gel in a 2.5% strength. Higher percentages are available but may irritate the skin. Start with a lower strength to allow your skin to become acclimated to the benzoyl peroxide treatments. Move up to a higher strength if results are not seen after several weeks.

Most common treatment methods call for a thin layer of benzoyl peroxide lotion to be applied over a thoroughly cleansed and dried skin. It can be used once or twice daily. Apply thoroughly over all areas affected by acne. Do not use just as a spot treatment. Benzoyl peroxide must be applied to all affected areas of the skin, as it works to stop pimples before they erupt.

Benzoyl peroxide may bleach hair, towels, and clothing. Take great care during and after application to avoid letting it come in contact with any of these materials. You may want to wear an old shirt if benzoyl peroxide is applied to the back or body. Let the lotion dry thoroughly after your nightly skin care treatments before getting into bed at night, to avoid bleaching your pillowcase.

How Benzoyl Peroxide works?

Benzoyl peroxide works by destroying P. acnes, the bacteria that causes the condition acne. It acts as an antiseptic and oxidizing agent, reducing the number of comedones, or blocked pores. It may be 2–3 weeks before you begin to see improvement.
One of the most commonly used ingredients, Benzoyl Peroxide can be very effective in treating mild cases of non-inflammatory acne. It’s safe for children as well as adults, and may combined with other topical or oral treatments.

While benzoyl peroxide kills existing P. acnes, it does not increase your body’s natural resistance to bacteria. So even when your breakouts begin to disappear, you should keep treating acne-prone areas. Why? This course of acne treatment kills bacteria, but it does not affect sebum production or the rate at which you shed your dead skin cells. If you stop using it, the bacteria — and your acne — will return.

Propionibacteria acnes, are the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. They cannot live in an aerobic (oxygen-rich) environment. Benzoyl peroxide works by introducing oxygen into the pore, thereby killing P. acnes. When the bacteria population is reduced, the number of breakouts on the skin is reduced as well.

Another factor that makes benzoyl peroxide so effective is its ability to help rid the follicle of excess dead skin cells. Clearing the pore of cellular debris will lessen the chance of pore blockages, or comedones. Because of this, benzoyl peroxide helps prevent breakouts before they start.
The use of benzoyl peroxide often must be continued, even after acne clears up. Once treatments are stopped, bacterium populations can increase and acne may return. Your dermatologist can help you determine how long to continue your benzoyl peroxide treatments.

Benzoyl Peroxide storage

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. A small amount should be applied, not just to the outbreaks themselves, but also to the areas where outbreaks occur. Avoid getting benzoyl peroxide in the eyes, mouth or nose. If contact is made with these sensitive areas, flush gently with water and contact a physician if inflammation or irritation continues.

Benzoyl peroxide comes in a cleansing liquid or bar, lotion, cream and gel for the use on the skin. Benzoyl peroxide is also a key ingredient in many over-the-counter acne topical medications. Be aware when using products that feature benzoyl peroxide, because it has a bleaching effect on hair and clothing. They may also affect your cloth-covered furniture.

While using benzoyl peroxide, you should always avoid anything that might irritate the skin such as abrasive soaps or cleansers, alcohol, cosmetics and prolonged exposure to sunlight. Benzoyl peroxide dries out the skin, so some redness and peeling should be expected. It could take up to 4 to 6 weeks to see a noticeable improvement in your symptoms. If none is noticed by the end of that time frame, then you should contact your doctor.

Benzoyl Peroxide in the top 5 treatments for mild acne

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the top five recommended treatments for mild acne, including whiteheads and blackheads. Acne affects most teenagers to some extent, but acne does not discriminate against age, sex or race.

While not a life threatening condition, acne can be upsetting and disfiguring. When severe, acne can lead to permanent scarring.

Even less severe cases can lead to scarring. While acne is not curable, it is 100% treatable with Benzoyl Peroxide.

The properties of benzoyl peroxide make it extremely useful in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. The anti-inflammatory properties will reduce swelling in infected papules and pustules, allowing a relief from the soreness that often accompanies acne outbreaks. The oxidizing factor dries out the thickened sebum or fluid within the acne and helps to alleviate the plugged pores, so that acne may heal without trauma to the area caused by popping the acne. To be most effective, one should use a benzoyl peroxide exfoliator.

Benzoyl peroxide in children and elderly

There is a special recommendation that children under the age of 12 should not use benzoyl peroxide to treat acne unless directed by a doctor.

For children up to 12 years of age: Studies on this medicine have been done only in adult patients, and there is no specific information comparing use of benzoyl peroxide with use in other age groups.

For children 12 years of age and older: Although there is no specific information comparing use of benzoyl peroxide in children with use in other age groups, this medicine is not expected to cause different side effects or problems in children 12 years of age and older than it does in adults.

Many medicines have not been studied specifically in older people. Maybe, because my skin was already too much irritated so it would be difficult to differentiate now what was an side effect and what wasn't. But, as I found on some sites, there may be some side effects in benzoyl peroxide usage, so I decided to post them here.

Serious side effects are not likely to occur. Stop using benzoyl peroxide topical and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; or hives).
Some burning, stinging, tingling, itching, redness, dryness, peeling, or irritation may be experienced while using benzoyl peroxide topical. Contact your doctor if these side effects are excessive. Less frequent application of benzoyl peroxide topical may be necessary.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Some problems with using benzoyl peroxide include:

Dryness of the treated area. If the skin is visibly scaly, apply a light non-oily moisturizer.

Skin irritation is rarely severe. Occasionally excessive irritation may lead to discontinuing use. Consider applying benzoyl peroxide less frequently.

Contact dermatitis (red, dry, itchy skin) can be due to irritation or allergy. It can be treated with a topical steroid such as hydrocortisone cream. Contact a physician if the irritation is persistent.

Benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing. Make sure the treated area is completely dry before it touches clothing or bedding.

If the following symptoms occur, contact a physician immediately:

Burning

Blistering

Excessive itching

Redness

Rash

Swelling

Benzoyl Peroxide Usage, Allergies

Use benzoyl peroxide topical exactly as directed by your doctor, or follow the instructions that accompany the package. It also has a mild drying effect, which allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away.
Benzoyl peroxide is used to treat acne.
Benzoyl Peroxide is commonly used to treat mild acne topically. It consists of two parts benzoyl and one part peroxide. It is a strong bleaching agent, therefore when applied to hair or fabrics, can be decolorized immediately.

Benzoyl peroxide has three basic properties. It can be used as an effective antiseptic, an oxidizing agent or as an anti-inflammatory. It has the ability to reduce the number of skin surface bacteria, as well as reduce yeast on the surface of the skin. For these reasons, it is most effective in the treatment of acne. When used for this purpose, it is most often in the form of gel or cream with a concentration of 10% or less. It is advised to use in small amounts, as it has a high drying agent. Some people have been found to have allergic reactions to this chemical. For these people, it is recommended to use in very small quantities then gradually increase use. If allergies continue to persist, a gel with 2.5% concentration is also available. This product has been shown to be just as effective as the 10% concentrated form.

An overview on Benzoyl Peroxide in Acne

With various forms of acne striking teens as well as adults, benzoyl peroxide is one of the most common treatments for acne.

Did Benzoyl Peroxide treated my acne?

Ok, this is a quite difficult question. I found on a forum that benzoyl peroxide may be a solution in acne, so I tested it on myself last year. Since then I used more than 5 tubes of Brevoxyl 4%, which, not regularly.
It is important to apply it on a clean skin and to avoid the contact with eyes, clothes and hair (it has a bleaching effect)
Back to my acne… since I started to use twice a day Brevoxyl (Benzoyl peroxide 4%) I observed first just a huge irritation, my skin became even more red and the spots became bigger and I thought “this is the end to all my future friendships and relationships” (I was 19)
But, in a 2 – 3 weeks, my family started to say me that there is an improvement of my skin and that it started to look better. I couldn’t see these changes because I looked myself in the mirror more than 5 times a day and it is impossible to remember yourself as you was 3 weeks ago (after more than 100 looks in the bathroom mirror)
Brevoxyl at first itched and it was an unpleasant sensation, especially in the evening. And it produces and little specific smell in contact to your skin.
But, now, to answer my question in the post title – I think no, Benzoyl Peroxide didn’t treated my acne, BUT it improved my situation considerably.
And I regret I have no photos in that period (it is a little hard to put me under focus) but it was a visible difference with me between and after.

Game: Help James and Alison to fight their acne with Benzac

I found this entertaining online game at theconstructionsite.com.au. As any other substance it has a mechanism of interaction and reactions which are at the base of the treatment. The action mechanism of Benzoyl Peroxide consist in its Comedolytic effect property, though it destroys the comedonnes. Also, it has some destroying properties on the follicular bacteria Propionibacterium Acnes. The best part is that bacteria can’t develop resistance to Benzoyl Peroxide, they can’t perform their organisms to this substance and it is easier to fight them this case.

All the substances which contain Benzoyl Peroxide may be divided into 2 groups:

Pure Benzoyl Peroxide

Cream 5%, 10%

Gel 2.5%, 5%, 10%

Lotion 5%, 10%

Combinations
Benzoyl peroxide with Erythromycin (Benzamycin)

Gel 50 mg benzoyl peroxide and 30 mg Erythromycin

Apply to skin bid, morning & evening

May cause skin dryness, erythema, Pruritus

Benzoyl peroxide/sulfur (Sulfoxyl Regular or Strong)

Lotion

Benzoyl 5%, Sulfur 2%

Benzoyl 10%, Sulfur 5%

May cause skin dryness and Contact Dermatitis

All the creams may be applied on the skin starting with small amounts. Later you may increase the time the cream is left on the skin and the amount.
Also, don’t forget about the Benzoyl Peroxide’s adverse effects: it may cause skin irritation and dryness. Also, It bleaches the hair and the clothes if dropped on them. In case of dryness, use a lotion or cream instead of gel. Also, exclude usage of acetone and alcohol based products and stick to the usual warm water with a soft soap, maybe a baby soap.

May be Demodex the cause of my acne?

Who causes acne? Actual theory about acne says in more than 90% of cases the agent is considered to be Demodex mites. As you can see in the photo, it has 8 legs and the mouth of these mites is like a very sharp needle that can directly sting into the cells to absorb nutrition. They like a wet and warm environment and become the most active in the dark. There are five stages in the life cycle. After mating on the surface of the skin, they go back into it and lay eggs, taking bacteria with them and excreting wastes and secretions, laying eggs and dying within its layers. After death, their corpses become liquid and decompose inside the skin. No studies where published till nowadays and there are no reports about the Benzoyl Peroxide’s action on pregnant. The majority of dermatologists avoid to indicate Benzoyl Peroxide in pregnant. It may be dangerous to treat a pregnant mother with a substance which wasn’t studied sufficiently at this stage.

Searching some info on this subject, I observed a physicians mention on some other medical site. In this article I’ll try to cover some major precautions every Benzoyl Peroxide user must know:

First of all, do not let your Benzoyl Peroxide product in some places accessible to reach of children. It’s easy to imagine what can happen in case a child opens a tube with Benzoyl Peroxide and starts playing with all that are inside, or, worse, tries it at tastes and inhales it. So, be careful where you keep your medicines, not just Benzoyl Peroxide product.

Avoid contact of the product with eyes, nasal mucosa, with the medium and intern ear and, also, do not try to taste it or add in some food accidentally. It may seem ridiculous, but being in constant contact with medical personal, as I’m a student in medicine, I hear a lot of stories, some of them dramatic and ridiculous at the same time. So be careful, again. This is not the most toxic product ever sold, but some precautions will save you from unpleasant events.

Don’t use it other way than externally, on skin. It is only for external use and do not try to apply some Benzoyl Peroxide products internally.

Avoid Benzoyl Peroxide to contact with your colored clothes. It bleaches them. Tested on my own – my favorite shirt gained some white spots on it after I dropped some Benzoyl Peroxide cream on it. I don’t have any information on bleaching effect on hair, but I don’t recommend you to test this. :)

When applied on skin, avoid using some other products, till it is totally absorbed by the skin. You can let it some other 20 minutes to completely dry out (if we talk about a cream). Avoid make-up on the area you just applied Benzoyl Peroxide at least for some half an hour after usage. Let your skin accommodate first with Benzoyl Peroxide.

What concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide should I choose?

You already know that Benzoyl Peroxide comes in different concentrations, regardless to its form – gel, solution or cream. Basically, as far I as I understood from some other blogs and forums, Benzoyl Peroxide may be produced in the following concentrations:
Benzoyl Peroxide – 2,5%
Benzoyl Peroxide – 4$
Benzoyl Peroxide – 8% (more common in USA)
Benzoyl Peroxide – 10%
If you are seeking for medical help in treating acne, and you find a doctor who wants to prescribe you some Benzoyl Peroxide based products, then he’ll choose one of those concentrations I provided, depending on your skin condition.
At a 2,5% concentration, Benzoyl Peroxide is known to be effective in easy and mild form of acne, with some spots on your skin. I suppose it’s more for casual usage, when you need to treat some light for of acne.
At a 4% concentration, Benzoyl Peroxide is optimal for an oily skin, with acne affecting your front, nose or shoulders. In this concentration it has a evident drying effect, so pay attention at the dose you are about to use and contact your doctor in case something gets wrong and you feel discomfort, hard itching, redness.
In concentration of 8 to 10%, Benzoyl Peroxide becomes a very powerful remedy, yet very active. Keep in mind it is not recommended to overdose your Benzoyl Peroxide-based cream because there is the possibility of some adverse reactions to appear.
Also I would like to touch a subject that I plan to develop further in this blog - Benzoyl Peroxide’s Precautions: Benzoyl Peroxide in a 100% concentration, applied on skin, becomes extremely toxic and is a substance considered to induce skin cancer and malign structures. I repeat – only in 100% concentration. Not in 2,5 or 10% as we use in treating acne. Those doses (from 2,5 up to 10%) are considered to be skin-safe and actually are the most cost-effective acne treatment

Which products contain Benzoyl Peroxide?

I want to provide all the remedies which contain Benzoyl Peroxide in their formula. It uses Dan's recipe (2.5% benzoyl peroxide) and it is a very good value for the money they ask. I can't say the exact price right now, but you can check it clicking on the image above. The link will redirect you to amazon, from where you can buy it. Yeap! Three months!
Is it a too long time? I don't know. I'm not yet really sure about all the benefits of Benzoyl Peroxide, but I noticed that after I used my Benzoyl-Peroxide-based cream, it was different and my acne were more evident.
So, i read a lot of articles on internet about the cheapest and the most effective method to fight acne. I found in some articles at acne.org that Benzoyl Peroxide may be a good choice if you try to get off your red spots. I decided to give it a try and so I discovered BP's effects on my own skin
I started to use it frenetically in the first days.
My cream has a 4% concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide, it's not the highest concentration at which this remedy is released (there a re more concentrated creams as 5%, 10%) and I noticed from the first application some itching and redness.
So, I announced my mom and sister about my new remedy and asked them to took some observation on my skins' evolution - will it improve or I just got another useless product.
Also, one of my criteria was to find the cheapest product which can stop my acne. Benzoyl Peroxide products seemed to me most cost-effective than any other I tried before. A tube of cream (40 grams) is about to cost you some 5.5 euro or less than 6.5 $ in Europe. I'm sure in USA the prices are, also, somewhere around this average.
In my next posts I'll try to share with you all my knowledges on Benzoyl peroxide side effects and products which contain this substance.

What is Benzoyl peroxide?

Benzoyl Peroxide is a chemical substance, toxic in 100% concentration if applied on skin or even inhaled. But the big majority of all the remedies which contain Benzoyl proxide do not pass the limit of 5-10%. This way, dermatologists assure us that this substance in small doses isn't harmful. Anyway, since today no studies on animals was carried, so nobody knows exactly what effects they should wait in case of over dosage or some other uncontrolled administration.
This substance has a antibacterial effect, it kills the bacteria on the surface of the skin. Bacteria are the main and more common "inhabitants" of our pores and skin. They are called saprophytes, but sometimes, in one's with a low immunity, these saprophyte bacteria may transform in our skin's enemies.
Benzoyl Peroxide kills these bacteria and has, also, an inhibitory role on oil glands which opens in the pores of the skin, especially on face, shoulders, back and chest.

What is Acne and how may it appear?

Acne is not my friend. I know this from my 15 years old, when my face met my first spots. Than was a big drama happening to me, more because of that I couldn't understand why I must suffer this affection.
I didn't knew that there are many causes which may induce acne and so the remedies are pretty different, so I started to wash and clean my face with a lot of usefulness products, which promised me a lot, but every time I quited, because my skin didn't improved. By contrary, it turned more and more irritate.
Last year I discovered a product based on benzoyl Peroxide, an antibacterial remedy, which is used successfully as a remedy against the acne.
Benzoyl Peroxide acts as an antibacterial treatment, therefore it doesn't destroy our tissues and selects only the bacteria which populate our skin.
So one of the big reasons why Benzoyl Peroxide is used in acne is about its Antibacterial Effect.
So, we'll deduce that only that form of acne which is produced by some bacteria like staphylococcus epidermis may be treated with a such remedy, nor the acne which canhve some other origin.
You didn't knew that acne is produced by some other factors?
Ok, there are a lot of causes which may lead to appearance of pustules and spots on the entire body, not only on the facial skin. I will enumerate some of them:

Some parasitic forms of arachnoid's (such as demodex)

Some disturbances in the inner bladders, such as gallbladder or sexual glands which in some affection may secrete bigger amounts of sebum and this way they create a favorable environment for different bacteria.

uncontrolled diet and irrational meals - this may lead to obesity and, this way, to a extra-oily skin, which, again is a good environment for bacteria.

So, in order to help you ameliorate your skin condition, in my further articles I will describe some solutions to all of these problems. Keep reading and visiting my blog :)

Is Benzoyl Peroxide a good choice in treating Acne?

"I am waiting for a miracle!" one of my customers wrote me yesterday in an email.
