Did Benzoyl Peroxide treated my acne?

Ok, this is a quite difficult question. I found on a forum that benzoyl peroxide may be a solution in acne, so I tested it on myself last year. Since then I used more than 5 tubes of Brevoxyl 4%, which, not regularly.
It is important to apply it on a clean skin and to avoid the contact with eyes, clothes and hair (it has a bleaching effect)
Back to my acne… since I started to use twice a day Brevoxyl (Benzoyl peroxide 4%) I observed first just a huge irritation, my skin became even more red and the spots became bigger and I thought “this is the end to all my future friendships and relationships” (I was 19)
But, in a 2 – 3 weeks, my family started to say me that there is an improvement of my skin and that it started to look better. I couldn’t see these changes because I looked myself in the mirror more than 5 times a day and it is impossible to remember yourself as you was 3 weeks ago (after more than 100 looks in the bathroom mirror)
Brevoxyl at first itched and it was an unpleasant sensation, especially in the evening. And it produces and little specific smell in contact to your skin.
But, now, to answer my question in the post title – I think no, Benzoyl Peroxide didn’t treated my acne, BUT it improved my situation considerably.
And I regret I have no photos in that period (it is a little hard to put me under focus) but it was a visible difference with me between and after.

I found this entertaining online game at theconstructionsite.com.au. I liked it and I decided to post it here, so everyone could help James or Alison to get a clear skin.
The game idea is to destroy all the spots with a Benzac Ac tube and to pass to the next level.
Move the tube with your keyboard arrows and treat the spot with the spacebar.
I would like to know if you enjoyed playing this game. I’m not affiliated to Benzac, I just liked the game – we all dream to gain a clear skin so fast and simple as James and Alison do in this game.

As you noticed, one of the indications of Benzoyl Peroxide is acne, Acne vulgaris. As any other substance it has a mechanism of interaction and reactions which are at the base of the treatment. The action mechanism of Benzoyl Peroxide consist in its Comedolytic effect property, though it destroys the comedonnes. Also, it has some destroying properties on the follicular bacteria Propionibacterium Acnes. The best part is that bacteria can’t develop resistance to Benzoyl Peroxide, they can’t perform their organisms to this substance and it is easier to fight them this case.

All the substances which contain Benzoyl Peroxide may be divided into 2 groups:

Pure Benzoyl Peroxide

• Cream 5%, 10%
• Gel 2.5%, 5%, 10%
• Lotion 5%, 10%

Combinations
Benzoyl peroxide with Erythromycin (Benzamycin)

1. Gel 50 mg benzoyl peroxide and 30 mg Erythromycin
2. Apply to skin bid, morning & evening
3. May cause skin dryness, erythema, Pruritus

Benzoyl peroxide/sulfur (Sulfoxyl Regular or Strong)

4. Lotion
1. Benzoyl 5%, Sulfur 2%
2. Benzoyl 10%, Sulfur 5%
5. May cause skin dryness and Contact Dermatitis

All the creams may be applied on the skin starting with small amounts. Increase slowly the strength of application and don’t forget previously to clean your skin with warm water and a soft soap. Later you may increase the time the cream is left on the skin and the amount.
Also, don’t forget about the Benzoyl Peroxide’s adverse effects: it may cause skin irritation and dryness. Also, It bleaches the hair and the clothes if dropped on them. In case of dryness, use a lotion or cream instead of gel. Also, exclude usage of acetone and alcohol based products and stick to the usual warm water with a soft soap, maybe a baby soap.
